Bottom line on premium gas: If you’re one of the millions of drivers using premium fuel despite the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation for regular, press the regular button instead and save yourself some money. AAA tests found no benefit to using premium fuel in a vehicle designed to run on regular gas.
AAA tested both regular and premium gasoline in vehicles designed to operate on regular-grade fuel and found no significant improvement in horsepower, fuel economy or emissions, suggesting that using premium gasoline when it’s not required for the vehicle offers no advantage.
