1. Margie’s Java Joint, Greeley

Founded in 1992 by Ron and Linde Thompson and named in honor of Linde’s mother, Margie, this coffeehouse focuses on creating a welcoming atmosphere and serving quality offerings. University of Northern Colorado students, locals and visitors gather here for a hot drink, such as cappuccino, Americano, cortado and chai latte.

The shop also has a signature cold drink: Margie’s Frappe, a blend of espresso, milk, ice cream and choice of a house-made specialty syrup. Nosh on freshly baked pastries or breakfast items, such as waffles, quiche and avocado toast, and lunch offerings, including a chicken Caesar salad and a chickpea melt. You can shop locally crafted goods, too.

2. Pangea Coffee Roasters, Golden

After working in the coffee industry for a combined 15 years, couple Matt Kurgan and Amanda Krenn decided to take the leap and became coffee roasters themselves in 2013. Two years later, they opened their coffeehouse. Tucked into a neighborhood a few blocks west of the main street, this shop with a walk-up order system and patio seating caters to coffee enthusiasts with its small-batch roasts and fresh brews.

Try the shop’s pour-over coffee, espresso con panna or dreamsicle blended drink to boost your energy level. Beans come from all over the world, and the list of offerings changes frequently.

3. Red Buffalo Coffee & Tea, Silverthorne

The baristas making your coffee at this award-winning coffee shop take their craft seriously. They are certified by the Specialty Coffee Association and the Barista Guild, so be sure to enjoy a flavored latte, iced coffee or one of their other tasty coffee drinks while you’re there.

You can relax on the patio when the weather’s sunny and warm or opt for comfortable indoor seating if the weather is chilly or wet. The coffee shop has been recognized repeatedly for its coffee, as a best place to work and as an environmental champion.
