1. Buddy’s, Detroit

In 1946, Gus Guerra and his team were inspired by Sicilian tradition to use forged steel pans to make their first square pizzas. The result? Pizza with a light and crispy crust with a buttery flavor and cheesy corners, which has since become known as Detroit-style pizza.

And the crust isn’t the end of the story—Buddy’s Detroit-style pizzas are also layered with a proprietary blend of crumbled Wisconsin brick cheese and a wide range of delicious toppings. Find Buddy’s at locations across Detroit and as far away as Grand Rapids and Okemos.

2. The Filling Station Microbrewery, Traverse City

A historic train station houses this railroad-themed pub and pizza joint. Try the Burlington Northern with prosciutto and pears; the Memphis Line with chicken and barbecue sauce; or the Firebox, loaded with hot peppers.

Pair your pizza with your choice from this microbrewery’s impressive list of beers, including lagers, India pale ales, stouts and more. The unique train station setting adds to the fun, and it offers expansive views of Boardman Lake as well as easy access to Traverse City’s recreational bike and pedestrian path.

3. EagleMonk Pub and Brewery, Lansing

Choose from Italian, Hawaiian or veggie pizzas, all created from house-made dough and baked on a stone. Many pizzas are then drizzled with Sriracha ranch or Frank’s Stingin’ Honey Garlic sauce.

The pub also serves a variety of tasty paninis, such as Sriracha Chicken, which combines Sriracha ranch, chicken, bacon and a four-cheese blend. Beer offerings are on rotation and include beer types from around the world: pilsners, porters, doppelbocks, lagers and more. The pub also hosts a book club, artists’ receptions, and a knitting and crocheting group.
