St. Helena Island Lighthouse: Known in the show as Redfield Lighthouse, it can be found on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The nearby Hunting Island State Park serves as the filming location for the beach clean-up scene in Season 1, Episode 3. A private beach, accessible by purchasing a day pass, is the state’s most popular state park attracting more than 1 million annual visitors. 

Kiawah Island Golf Resort: The picturesque backdrop of the first season’s Midsummers party, this exclusive golf course is located on South Carolina’s private Kiawah Island. Pitt Street Bridge: If you’ve seen the show, you’re sure to remember the dramatic scene in Season 3 that follows JJ on his dirt bike at top speed driving almost into the water. Although not as high stakes in person, this long path can be found in the historic Ole Village neighborhood of Mount Pleasant (dirt bikes not allowed, by the way). Visitors can walk, bicycle, take their dogs, and even fish off the pier safely at the end of the bridge. This area is also home to the Pitt Street Pharmacy which can be spotted in the show and has been in operation since 1937.

The Wreck of Richard and Charlene: Tucked away among the several water-side restaurants on Mount Pleasant’s Shem Creek, this real-life spot plays the restaurant where Kiara works and doubles as a Pogue hangout. The site is so named after hurricane Hugo washed a small trawler dubbed “The Richard & Charlene” onto the shore in pieces.

Washington Square Park: Located in the Historic District of downtown Charleston, this greenspace sets the backdrop when John B and Sarah Cameron take to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The park has all the hallmarks of southern charm from the low-hanging Spanish moss to the wrought iron fence, it is a must-see when visiting. 

Charleston Gaillard Center: Another sneaky swap, the impressive cream building is a cover for the exterior of the UNC-Chapel Hill Law Library. Though not a library, the state building, located in downtown on the peninsula, serves as a concert hall and performance venue that hosts several shows throughout the year.

The Ben Silver Collection: One more stop along the character’s “Chapel Hill adventure”, John B and Sarah Cameron have a cute shopping montage at this luxury clothing store in downtown Charleston.

Although not the proper Outer Banks in North Carolina, the show’s movie magic does a great job of capturing the essence of the historic southeast found in the pocket of Charleston, South Carolina. As viewers wait anxiously for Outer Banks Season four.
