The Raj, Fairfield
The Raj (above) is one of the nation’s premier Ayurvedic health centers. Ayurveda, a natural and holistic approach to physical and mental health developed in India more than 6,000 years ago, is recognized today by the World Health Organization. It focuses on boosting the immune system, removing impurities and promoting vitality and good health.
At The Raj, individualized programs that last from five to 21 days are tailored to each client’s needs, including reducing stress, dealing with chronic health disorders and rejuvenation. Only 15 guests stay here at a time on its campus set amid rolling, pastoral countryside outside of Fairfield.
East Village Spa, Des Moines
In the East Village district it was named for, this day spa (above) has a team of more than 20 massage therapists, estheticians and nail technicians. Its motto “Every. Body. Welcome.” reinforces their philosophy of warm, friendly service. They also make special accommodations for their clients’ diverse body types and mobility and sensory needs.
In addition to standard spa services, East Village Spa offers more unusual treatments such as a Gong Fu Chai Body Scrub and a Two Feet Deep Barefoot Massage.
Potosa Spa, Dubuque
The Hotel Julien Dubuque, a AAA Three Diamond Hotel downtown, is home to this luxurious day spa (above) that draws inspiration from Indigenous traditions relating to wind, earth, water and fire. Potosa’s menu of services includes facial and body treatments, massages, manicures, pedicures and hair care. A popular option is its bath and body ceremony which begins with dry exfoliation to increase circulation and is followed by a warm bath with aromatherapy and a full-body massage.
Two Finches Spa, Sioux City
Located within the AAA Four Diamond Warrior Hotel, Two Finches Spa (above) provides a serene escape. You can visit for the day or combine your spa experience with a stay at the hotel for an even more relaxing getaway.
After being greeted with a selection of complimentary drinks like champagne and infused waters, guests can choose from a full menu of massages, facials and nail and hair services. To extend your spa retreat, you can soak in a hot tub, take a dip in a pool, spend time in a sauna or use the hotel’s fitness center.
