You and your friend decide to put your adulting skills to use by planning a trip, searching for discounts to stick to your budget. One of your tasks is to find an affordable rental car for your upcoming trip.

You start checking rental car rates and quickly realize that having your own transportation may blow your budget. The reason? Well, since you’re under 25, rental car companies often charge additional fees for young drivers like yourself. But fear not! Your vacation can still happen, thanks to AAA and Hertz's Under 25 program for young drivers.

How much is the Hertz young driver fee?

If you’re a AAA Member, make sure you’re sitting down when you read this. (We’ll wait.)

That's right, Hertz waives the young driver fee for AAA Members under 25. There are some restrictions, which we'll explain shortly, but now that you know you won't be penalized for being a young adult, let's explore the possibilities with your Hertz rental car on a fictional trip.

Your fictional destination: Florida

You touch down in Tampa, pick up your Hertz rental car and take your new (but temporary) ride on a scenic driving tour around the city. Next, you spread your wings a little and explore the beaches on the nearby Gulf Coast. You and your friend swim, hike, eat seafood and look for seashells along miles of beach under the Florida sun.

Having your own rental car makes it incredibly convenient to prepare for adventures like these—leave your hotel, grab some snacks from a grocery store, head to the sandy beaches for recreation and relaxation, and still make it back to the hotel in time for dinner. And that fancy dinner won’t break your vacay budget since you’ll be saving money…that is if you booked through AAA Travel. With Hertz and AAA on your side, you can have an unforgettable vacation and car rental experience and make the most of your next road trip adventure.

How the Hertz young driver program works

To qualify to have the fee waived, you must be between the ages of 20-24 (minimum age varies by state), have your own AAA Membership (or be an additional driver on your parent’s membership), have a valid driver’s license and credit card in your name, and meet standard rental requirements. You can then choose a vehicle from three of Hertz’s model options—compact/midsized, full-sized/standard and SUV/minivan.

AAA Member discounts for Hertz car rentals

AAA Members who rent Hertz vehicles can get additional benefits, including AAA discounts on car rental base rates, no additional driver fee for AAA Members, and 10% off the per-gallon price if you pre-purchase fuel from Hertz.

Keep in mind that additional restrictions may apply for drivers under 25, such as limited car selection and a required credit check.
