John Mark Verdier House

Take a docent-guided tour of this Federal-style manor, built more than 200 years ago for French Huguenot merchant and planter John Mark Verdier.

St. Helena Island

Roughly 8 miles east of downtown, this hub of Gullah Geechee culture is a must-visit. Explore the Penn Center, now a cultural center, but originally one of the first schools in the South for formerly enslaved people.

Browse over a dozen studios and galleries adorned with portraits and fine art inspired by the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

 

Eat & Stay 

Fishcamp on 11th Street

Located in nearby Port Royal, this restaurant serves blackened Carolina catfish and many other fine seafood options.

Choose three items (not including dessert) off a fixed-price menu at this adults-only nouveau Southern restaurant that serves inventive dishes and desserts. Make reservations ASAP as it is often fully booked a month in advance.
